QUESTION:

Boy did I sure get myself in such a mess. Here's the situation: I have this ex who I had been hooking up with ever since we broke up. During the summer she developed strong feelings for me again and wanted a relationship. At the time I didn�t want one; I was happy being single and free to do whatever I wanted. I didn�t know what to do, so I simply played off the situation as "we'll see what happens."

Well it seems that fate comes with a sense of irony because I am the one who has fallen for her now. I want her back, and I don't know what to do. I have to admit; I wussed out. I confessed all of my love to her foolishly. I couldn't help it though. I couldn't keep all of that pent up inside me anymore.

She is in a relationship with this guy that see was seeing during the summer, the man she was prepared to leave for me. She's confessed that she doesn't love him, it's nothing serious, and has told me that he's just for "fun." She cheated on him dozens of times with me and never really took him seriously until recently. She told me that she wants to get back together with me, but not now because she's too scared to commit to a relationship because she doesn't want to be hurt like she was during the summer.

I've largely returned back to a more limited contact state and resumed the role of the ladies man. I've been very charming in the last few days and have seen very positive results from her, but nothing that would bring my hopes up of returning to a relationship with her. She thinks that I am seeing this other girl Mary who has become somewhat serious.

My question to you is how do I bring her back to me in this situation. I am beyond confused and I have no idea what to do. I honestly think you're the only man who can give me some insight into what I need to do. Don't turn me away!

CARLOS ANSWERS:

Well, I've told this story too many times to repeat it again here. You know what I always say about wanting her now just because you can't have her.

You messed up and now you're seeing the results. You can learn your lesson by never doing that "confess your feelings" thing EVER again.

You need to take your medicine.

Instead, let's focus on the reality of her thinking.

You said she told you that she just wants to see him for "fun."

I hate to tell you this, but what other reason would she want to see ANYONE?

Answer: If she wants to settle down, squeeze out a few puppies, and live off your 401K for the rest of her life.

And then she goes out and finds a guy she can have "fun" with.

Remember, dude, all ANY girl wants is to have FUN. If you can give her that "fun," she'll stick around .

Don't underestimate this "fun" thing. It can really sink you if you think she actually WANTS something else. (Like, maybe, boredom?)

You can do a variety of things here to TRY to get her back.

Notice, I said, TRY.

I don't think it's very likely. In fact, I'd say that you're going to take a harsh toll on your attitude with women in general if you insist on winning this girl over. I've seen guys go through the wringer with their self-esteem dropping as they desperately try to right their mistake.

But since you probably won't listen to me, here's how you can try to get her back:

1) You keep seeing other women. You'll find, in time, that the one you wanted so much won't seem so interesting. Especially when you find there are many other fish in the sea.

By seeing other women and continuing to keep active, you'll keep your attitude and self-confidence high.

This will then allow her to feel even more attracted to you. Because you AREN'T needy or clingy or desperate.

2) You don't play the role of the "sweet little boy-toy friend who doesn't get any booty." Don't call her and chat on the phone. You just check in once in a while and "suggest" something very naughty to her. Like meeting at a hotel where you can just grind in the dark. Make it clear that it's just about FUN.

You see, she'll probably go for the naughty thing because it's forbidden. That will give it a quality of FUN that she will want, and work to acquire.

3) Get her a little jealous with your "Mary" girl. Give her a few explicit details and watch her reaction. (Pretend you let it "slip out" about how you and Mary were caught bumping uglies in the elevator.)

If she doesn't get a little jealous, you'll know where you stand.

If she does get a bit jealous about her, you can tease her about it and provoke her into a response.

A response where you two meet and eat cookies in bed at the Holiday Inn.

It does seem kind of contradictory sometimes, doesn't it?

Chase her.

But don't chase ONLY her.

Be attentive.

But not TOO attentive.
